What is family arbitration? A guide for separating couples
Family arbitration is a private, confidential process designed to help separating couples resolve disputes without the need for a formal
I have practised family law exclusively since qualifying as a solicitor in 2004. I help a range of clients achieve solutions to legal disputes arising out of relationship breakdown.
I specialise in advising on the financial implications of starting a new relationship and on ending a relationship. I also specialise in dealing with the impact family breakups have on children. I have a particular specialism in dealing with complex financial issues, involving businesses, farms or trust structures (both nationally and internationally). I also deal with Prenuptial Agreements, Co-habitation disputes and proceedings concerning children.
I am the Head of the Family Department at Tees and lead a team of specialist family lawyers across all our offices. Our team is highly experienced and able to offer a full range of different processes to achieve solutions, including collaborative law and arbitration; this means we can help you avoid long and painful disputes without compromising your position. Given the wide range of experience within the department, I can tailor the approach to your individual needs and specific circumstances.
I am proud of the team and the dedicated approach we take to look after our clients. We understand you need an experienced lawyer backed by a team who will be compassionate, understanding, insightful, highly professional, and fiercely supportive in advising and guiding you; that is exactly what we provide.

Sally Powell is outstanding. She gave thoughtful, pragmatic advice with real humanity. In a complex, high-value case, she excelled – from instructing the right barrister to managing the details of multi-million-pound claims. Her technical expertise is matched by her ability to deal sensitively with all parties. Costs were clear and reasonable throughout.
