Tees’ Better Future Fund has awarded a grant of £4,811 to Herts Vision Loss (HVL) to support an inclusive sports and exercise project for blind and visually impaired children and young people across East Hertfordshire.
The funding will help deliver Vision in Motion; a new initiative designed for young people aged 7–25. The project will provide 12 weekly group sessions featuring adapted sports including Goalball, VI Tennis and Cricket, all led by trained instructors with specialist knowledge of visual impairment.
Vision in motion: inclusive sports initiative
Alongside physical activity, participants will take part in teamwork and resilience-building workshops. The programme will also provide specialist accessible equipment including eye shades, tactile markers and auditory aids, as well as digital exercise resources for use at home.
Supporting young people with vision impairments
The project aims to support 15 young people by helping to reduce isolation, improve physical and emotional wellbeing, and build confidence and independence. HVL will also train volunteers in visual impairment awareness and safeguarding to ensure sessions remain safe, inclusive and accessible.

Comments from Herts Vision Loss
Clement Musonda, CEO at Herts Vision Loss said:
“We are incredibly grateful to Tees’ Better Future Fund for supporting Vision in Motion. Opportunities for blind and visually impaired children and young people to take part in accessible sport can be limited. This project will give participants the chance to stay active, develop new skills and build friendships in a supportive environment.”
Volunteering opportunities for Tees employees
As part of the partnership, Herts Vision Loss is also offering volunteering opportunities for Tees employees. Volunteers can support sports sessions, assist with workshops, help create accessible digital resources, or provide administrative support, while seeing first-hand the impact of the project on young people and their families.
