Lauren Mars

Senior Associate

French Law

Biography

I am a Senior Associate in the Private Client department at Tees. I joined the firm in May 2025, having previously practised as a Sole Practitioner, running my own niche firm for 15 years and specialising in French property law and inheritance planning.

I am a French Native speaker born and brought up in France, and moved to England in 1990. I qualified as a UK Solicitor in 2002 in the private client department, dealing with Conveyancing and UK probate. With my background and having studied French Law at Lyon University, I naturally developed a specialism in French private client work.

I have extensive experience in French property purchases and sales, as well as French company formation, rental agreements, and inheritance laws, including tax planning advice and French wills.

I have a strong interest in cross-border estate administration, and my knowledge of both the French and English legal systems has enabled me to advise and assist both private individuals and professionals in the UK and France when French assets need to be dealt with. Notaires often require my assistance with drafting affidavits of foreign law or legal opinions in order to assist them in implementing UK wills to French assets under the European Regulations Brussels IV that came into force in 2017.

I've never found an area where Tees have been unable to help. There is considerable strength across the organisation. Individuals have good contacts outside of their practice area. I have always found Tees accessible and helpful.

Further information

My clients have found my assistance invaluable in the process as I strive to make sure the legal process is as stress free and easy to understand as possible, ensuring that the differences in language and culture are not barriers to finding the right solution.

I find my work most rewarding when I help individuals who are going through tough emotional times after losing someone close with the complexities of French estate administration.

I am also passionate about finding solutions to complex cross-border estates and transfers of French assets, and recently worked on a test case where a large accountancy firm in London, insolvency practitioners in Paris and London and a firm of notaires were involved.

I strive to offer a personal service by being approachable and sympathetic to any situation, whilst being professional and delivering a high level of service to my clients.
