Biography

Machela joined Tees in July 2024, as a solicitor specialising in education law. She began her career as a paralegal in the Legal Aid team at Coram Children’s Legal Centre’s Child Law Advice Service, advising families on child, family, and education law through both telephone advice and casework. She later obtained Legal Aid Supervisor status and, as a senior paralegal, formally supervised and trained junior paralegals, overseeing a team of three.

Machela has been involved in innovative and impactful work throughout her career, including a pilot project with Coram and the Clement James Centre addressing school exclusions among children living near Grenfell. The project resulted in a published article in Children and Young People Now and evolved into a consultation service supporting local families at risk of exclusion, with successful outcomes enabling children to reintegrate into education.
