Financial and succession planning solicitors: Expert legal advice

What is financial and succession planning?

Financial and succession planning is a way to hand your business and your estate on to the next generation while ensuring it continues to flourish. It’s very common for people to be trying to provide for their families in a way that secures the future of their businesses and doesn’t damage the business in any way.

You’ll need an expert who specialises in dealing with complex family arrangements. Tees has worked with many business owners, including many rural businesses, so we have the practical experience to guide you through anything. It’s often very hard trying to keep everybody happy and there are a lot of legal and financial implications that you need to consider. Tees combine legal services and independent financial advice under one roof, so you get a seamless service for planning your family’s financial future.

Tees were commended for Private Client- Inheritance and Succession Planning work for the first time in the prestigious ‘The Times Best Law Firms’ in 2023.

I've never found an area where Tees have been unable to help. There is considerable strength across the organisation. Individuals have good contacts outside of their practice area. I have always found Tees accessible and helpful.

I have been told my property has development potential. What do I do?

If you’ve been contacted by a developer or a land promoter regarding a potential development to your property, you may wish to consider granting an option agreement or a promotion agreement. An option agreement is made between the landowner and the developer, where it is intended that the developer will apply for planning permission and requires an option to buy the property. A land promotion agreement is used where a developer agrees to apply for planning permission and will market the property for sale on the open market once planning permission has been obtained. This is usually in return for a proportion of the net sale proceeds. The law on this is very complex and you will need specialist advice.
