The NHS maternity crisis: the statistics demand urgent action

I am a Senior Associate Solicitor within the Medical Negligence team. I have been working in medical negligence for over a decade and have recovered £millions in compensation for victims of avoidable medical accidents.
I work with our dedicated team of specialist lawyers and experts to help you understand what happened, to help you access the best possible treatment and rehabilitation, to secure maximum compensation, and to help you to positively plan for the future.
I have extensive experience in all kinds of medical negligence cases, but more recently, I have sub-specialised in cases involving:
I understand that starting a claim against the NHS, private hospital, or other healthcare organisation/professional can feel daunting. You may be going through considerable physical, emotional and financial strain as a result of your treatment – and I will help you find the best way to move forward in your situation.
I will take the time to listen to you and understand your concerns and what you want to achieve. My priority is always to seek the best possible result for you – which might include financial compensation, an apology or a change in working practices to ensure it doesn’t happen to someone else.
A client has recently commented, “I was extremely satisfied with the overall professionalism of the people I dealt with, particularly of Sarah Stocker, who acted as my usual contact… I needed personal and empathetic handling of my case, which is exactly what I received.”
Tees is ranked in the top tier of the Legal 500 East Anglia>Insurance>Personal injury and clinical negligence: claimant 2026

My solicitor was Sarah Stocker, and she was exceptional. I never had to chase her for updates, and she explained everything clearly in layman’s terms. Her excellent memory meant she kept on top of the nuances of my case. Having previously had to drive my case forward with another firm, it was such a relief to be able to fully rely on Sarah—especially while I was recovering from major trauma.
Legal 500 UK, 2026

I first joined the Medical Negligence team at Tees in January 2015 as a paralegal. I completed my solicitor training contract in June 2017 and re-joined Tees as a solicitor. Before qualification as a solicitor, I spent several years working for both defendant and claimant medical negligence firms, and I, therefore, have a unique understanding of how both sides deal with claims.
I am an accredited member of the Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) specialist medical negligence panel.
I sit on the Public Advisory Group for the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers and have been campaigning for many years against Fixed Recoverable Costs, which are likely to significantly impact access to justice for injured patients and bereaved families.
I am a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500: Insurance – Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence: Claimant (2018, 2022, 2023, 2024).
Away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and dog (a sausage dog called Sherman), travelling and running half-marathons for charity.
“Sarah Stocker is an absolutely outstanding solicitor, knows her cases inside out, fantastic grasp of the law and how to deal with complex medical issues. Superb.” Legal 500 UK, 2025
“Sarah Stocker was well informed, professional in her outlook, courteous, and prompt in her responses.” Legal 500 UK, 2025
“I honestly cannot thank Tees enough for the help and care they have provided. The final settlement was more than three times the amount proposed by my previous solicitor, and the difference they made to both the outcome and my experience cannot be overstated” Client -Demi Little
