French dispute resolution

Sometimes it’s not the language that’s the problem. The French law team at Tees can help you resolve disputes in France quickly and efficiently.

French dispute resolution

If you do business or own property in France, you’ll already know that the legal system there is very different to that in England. And we all know that relationships, both professional and personal, can sometimes go wrong.

Even if you speak fluent French, you may feel that there’s no other option but to get legal advice on how you can resolve your difficulties. That’s where we can help. Tees is an English law firm, but we have the expertise and practical experience to guide you through disputes and litigation in France

French avocat

Our French lawyer, avocat Hervé Blatry, is on hand to guide you through the French system. Hervé qualified in France and had extensive experience in the French courts before coming to the UK. He has dealt with many different types of cases, including:

  • Commercial contracts disputes
  • enforcement action if existing contracts are not being honoured
  • construction disputes
  • property disputes
  • disputes with banks regarding mortgages

Our approach to French disputes and litigation

We will work out whether an amicable solution can be reached and if it can, Hervé will draw up a settlement agreement for you. If legal action can’t be avoided, Hervé will work with an experienced, correspondent lawyer in France to bring the action in the French courts. We’ll provide English translations of all relevant documents if you need us to.

The team provided expert guidance, seamlessly navigating cross-border complexities with clarity and professionalism. Their strategic advice and prompt communication gave us confidence at every stage of the process.

I have been told my property has development potential. What do I do?

If you’ve been contacted by a developer or a land promoter regarding a potential development to your property, you may wish to consider granting an option agreement or a promotion agreement. An option agreement is made between the landowner and the developer, where it is intended that the developer will apply for planning permission and requires an option to buy the property. A land promotion agreement is used where a developer agrees to apply for planning permission and will market the property for sale on the open market once planning permission has been obtained. This is usually in return for a proportion of the net sale proceeds. The law on this is very complex and you will need specialist advice.
