How can I help you?
I am an Associate Solicitor within the Medical Negligence team. I have been working in medical negligence for over a decade and have recovered £millions in compensation for victims of avoidable medical accidents.
I work with our dedicated team of specialist lawyers and experts to help you understand what happened, to help you access the best possible treatment and rehabilitation, to secure maximum compensation, and to help you to positively plan for the future.
I have extensive experience in all kinds of medical negligence cases, but more recently, I have sub-specialised in cases involving:
- Stillbirth & Neonatal death claims
- Ophthalmic claims
- Surgical Negligence
- GP Negligence
- Cosmetic & Bariatric Surgery
Recent work highlights include:
- Settlement of £875,000 for total blindness as a result of a failure to adequately manage Giant Cell Arteritis.
- Settlement of £450,000 for total loss of vision in one eye as a result of a failure to adequately monitor and manage retinal detachment.
- An undisclosed settlement arising out of neonatal death as a result of admitted failures during labour. The case resulted in changes to hospital guidelines, attracted significant media attention and was featured on BBC Panorama.
Delivering what you need
I understand that starting a claim against the NHS, private hospital, or other healthcare organisation/professional can feel daunting. You may be going through considerable physical, emotional and financial strain as a result of your treatment – and I will help you find the best way to move forward in your situation.
I will take the time to listen to you and understand your concerns and what you want to achieve. My priority is always to seek the best possible result for you – which might include financial compensation, an apology or a change in working practices to ensure it doesn’t happen to someone else.
A client has recently commented, “I was extremely satisfied with the overall professionalism of the people I dealt with, particularly of Sarah Stocker, who acted as my usual contact… I needed personal and empathetic handling of my case, which is exactly what I received.”
What else should you know?
I first joined the Medical Negligence team at Tees in January 2015 as a paralegal. I completed my solicitor training contract in June 2017 and re-joined Tees as a solicitor. Before qualification as a solicitor, I spent several years working for both defendant and claimant medical negligence firms, and I, therefore, have a unique understanding of how both sides deal with claims.
I am an accredited member of the Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) specialist medical negligence panel.
I sit on the Public Advisory Group for the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers and have been campaigning for many years against Fixed Recoverable Costs, which are likely to significantly impact access to justice for injured patients and bereaved families.
I am a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500: Insurance – Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence: Claimant (2018, 2022, 2023, 2024).
Away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and dog (a sausage dog called Sherman), travelling and running half-marathons for charity.
